  • An Introduction to Composing

Composing can be an amazing and fun experience – whether you be a budding Mozart, techno freak, an emerging guitarist, or a complete novice with just a computer at hand. Young people today can express themselves through solo compositions for their own instrument, by collaborating with others in ensembles, choirs or bands, and even use their phones, computer or the recording studio as their “instrument.”
This program looks at a variety of starting points for composition through the eyes of some emerging composers and songwriters in a number of styles and genres.

  • Inside a Recording Studio

When it comes to creating music, one of the most important and intriguing aspects of the whole process takes place inside the recording studio itself. This program is an essential resource for all students interested in pursuing music and sound recording as a future career. It covers a wide range of useful information, including: understanding the nature and acoustics of sound, the layout of a recording studio, main steps in a recording process and producing a finished product from your recording. The program also features insightful interviews with professional sound recordists, mixers and musicians and introduces viewers to the whole range of recording equipment and computer software used in the industry today.

  • Nuclear Energy: Basic Version – Imperial

Introduces the basics of how a nuclear power station works. What is fission and the role of cooling water in nuclear reactors? Understand the nuclear fuel cycle: mining, milling, enrichment, fabrication and spent fuel (storage and reprocessing). Also discover other uses of nuclear energy, including ‘non-power’ uses. Includes sequences designed for student enrichment/ teacher background (breeder reactors, fusion and fusion reactors, and fission).

  • Nuclear Energy: Advanced Version – Imperial

In addition to covering all topics in the basic version of Nuclear Energy, this program covers a number of advanced topics. Understand the use of water to vary reactor power, as well as different methods of mining uranium and witness a specific example of a fission reaction. Students will be introduced to more detailed discussion of enrichment, including structure properties of Uranium Hexafluoride, centrifuging, gas diffusion and the decommissioning of nuclear power stations. Includes sequences designed for student enrichment and teacher background (breeder reactors, fusion and fusion reactors, fission).

  • Measurement and the Search for Relationships

Learn how mathematical relationships can be investigated experimentally and how to write the report. This program uses case studies to show how the physical world can be described by mathematical relationships. It specifically demonstrates how an experiment can be designed to test the effect of two independent variables and how mathematical formulae can be derived from experimental measurements. This program also outlines how to prepare a report for an experiment. Program chapters include: (intro, investigation, effect on T of mass, effect on t of oscillation amplitude, measuring spring stiffness, effect on T of spring stiffness and the search for a constant).

  • Yawanawa – Joaquin Phoenix

In 4REAL Yawanawan host Sol Guy takes Academy Award-nominated actor Joaquin Phoenix into the heart of the Amazon Rainforest to meet Indigenous leaders Chief Tashka and Laura Yawanawa. Tashka and Laura’s fight for their land, focus on their economy and commitment to traditions have empowered the Yawanawa and brought them back from the brink of cultural extinction.
