  • Corrosion Chemistry

This program is designed to help students understand the chemistry in corrosion. The enigmatic presenter takes the viewer on an informative journey examining such issues as what causes corrosion, necessary conditions for corrosion to occur, which metals corrode, oxidization, electricity and redox and corrosion minimization. Enhanced by animated graphics and laboratory experiments, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of this chemical process.

  • Creative Cakes: Basic Techniques

The first in a two-part series, this practical guide looks at many basic techniques used in cake decorating. Cake decorating experts share their knowledge and display their skills on various processes, including chocolate work, basic frostings, piping work and covering a cake in fondant. Demonstrations of the techniques are shown and explained.

  • Creative Cakes: Beyond the Basics

The second in this two-part series, this program looks at more advanced techniques used in cake decorating. Again featuring our cake decorating experts at work, we feature some more complex cake decorating skills, such as doing transfers, colored piping and collars, three different techniques for creating frosting roses and we even learn how to create a rag doll figurine!

  • DC Electricity: Discovery and Developments

This program looks at the origins of electricity through the first uses of static electricity by the Greeks, Gilbert and onto other popular displays by scientists in the 18th and 19th centuries. Viewers will gain an understanding of the chemical battery, the ‘complete’ circuit, electrolysis, electroplating and negatively charged electrons. Resistance to flow is introduced and the use of both ammeters and voltmeters to monitor flow and potential. Highly effective animations will engage students, while clearly demonstrating processes.

  • Decisions, Decisions: Family Food Choices

While there are many influences on our food decisions, the family is probably the most important. In this program, we spend time with a not atypical family: a husband and wife and their teenage and pre-teenage children. We see who makes the decisions, why and with what effect, and we see how the family’s thinking about nutrition is fairly deeply ingrained, sometimes for the worst, sometimes for the better.

  • Designing a Chair: Sitting Pretty

This program looks at chair design from two slightly different perspectives. One is presented by Julian Pratt, Co-ordinator Furniture Programs, RMIT University. His is a fairly standard ‘by-the-book’ kind of approach. The other practitioners take a more lateral, less academic approach to the question of design. Given their international reputation, their opinions provide a neat counterpoint to Julian Pratt.

  • The History of Evolution Theory

How did life come to be in all the myriad of forms that exist on earth today? In this program we present an overview, from a science viewpoint, of the development of answers to this fundamental question. From Lamarck and The Inheritance of Acquired Characteristics, Darwin’s Origin of the Species, development s by key biologists to recent directions, the program charts the development of evolutionary theory. The main ideas behind Intelligent Design are also examined.

  • Doing Great Research

This program helps to teach the fundamentals of the research process by following a student as he grapples with the difficulties of independent learning through a research project. He discovers along the way that research is more of a creative adventure than just a classroom chore. With help from friends and teachers he learns to identify his topic, create concept maps and find a rich range of resources. He also discovers some trusted techniques in recording his information and in bringing it all together in a presentation plan.
