Subjects: Physical Science

  • Future Crime

Can the sound of a suspect’s voice reveal his lie? Can the crucial moment of crime, buried deep in damaged video, be revealed? Can computers isolate a guilty face in a crowd? No longer science fiction, these are the high-tech tools of the forensics trade.

  • The Cover-Up

“Fire, water, earth – killers call on all the elements in their attempt to cover up their crimes. But even a body burned to ashes, sunk deep into the sea or reduced to fragments will still tell its forensic tale.”

  • Lasting Impressions

From the tips of their ears to the soles of their feet – criminals are betrayed by the clues their own bodies leave behind. A killer’s ear against a wall, his hand on a door, the path that he walks – even the slightest impressions left at the scene help crime fighters find their man. Forensic Expert: Brian Dalrymple Finger Print Expert.

  • Weapons

Weapons are the hallmark of violent crime, tools designed to harm – or kill. Forensic science has developed a world of techniques for tracking and identifying these devices. Blood spatter, explosive residue, ballistics and trauma wounds tell crime scene investigators their deadly story.

  • Beauty Queen

Karyn Slover is a pretty small town dreamer who’s finally got her big break: she’s been offered work as a model by an agency in Los Angeles. Now she can move away with her three-year old son, Kolten, leaving her ex-husband, friends, and current boyfriend behind. She leaves her desk at the local newspaper at 5 PM, and is never heard from again.

  • Steam and the Sternwheeler

This program details, explains, and demonstrates the propulsion system of a steam powered ship driven by reciprocating steam engines and a stern mounted paddle wheel. The demonstration is modeled on the historic vessel Samson V currently exhibited in New Westminster B.C.
This five part, menu driven, presentation runs more than forty five minutes if all five modules are played. The work examines the entire propulsion process from the nature of steam itself to a full explanation of the engines and their control.

  • Refraction and Images

Topics include explanation of refraction and image formation, prisms, rainbows, telescopes, cameras, and lenses. The content is easy for students to follow and understand due to its gradual build-up of concepts and clear explanation of ideas.

  • Physics of Music

    Physics of Music

Topics include wave nature of sound, sound on a CRO; music versus noise; pitch, frequency, amplitude, wavelength; musical scale, octaves; hearing and decibel scale; timbre of voice and other instruments explained by waveforms on CRO; interference & superposition producing beats; strings, wind, reed, and percussion.

  • Power Lines and Transformers

    Power Lines and Transformers

How electricity is distributed from power stations to the end user. Topics discussed are line loss, transformers – how they reduce line loss, the high voltage network, connecting the user and the purchasing of power.

  • Electricity – How it works

    Electricity – How it works

Topics include static electricity, electrons moving in a wire, circuits, electron pumps, electromagnetism, chemical change, physical movement, and how we measure electricity.
