  • Linear Functions – An Introduction

Linear functions are one of the most important and basic of functions that students study in algebra. In this program, our presenter Sharpie show students the different forms of linear functions; tables, graphs and equations. Students explore the concept of the y-intercept and learn how determine the slope of a line given any two points on the line. Students plot linear graphs from linear equations and discover with the gradient and y-intercept they can not only sketch the linear graph but also determine the linear equation for a line.

  • Pythagoras’ Theorem – An Introduction

This program explores one of the oldest, most-well known and widely used mathematical relationships in history – The Pythagorean Theorem. Using a step-by-step approach, this program explores the concept of right angled triangles and The Pythagoras Proof using geometric squares associated with each of the sides, calculates the lengths of both the hypotenuse and shorter sides in a number of right angled triangles as well as applying the Pythagorean Theorem to a number of real life applications.

  • Algebra: The Basics

Algebra is one of the most powerful forms of mathematics we have devised. It helps us to study numerical patterns, and requires us to write them down in a special system of symbols. To understand how algebra works in this way, in this exciting program we travel to Hong Kong to search for patterns. This program explains the basic concepts of algebra including number patterns, pronumerals, algebraic expressions, order of operations and expanding and simplifying. The natural and city landscapes of Asia are used to bring to life these abstract concepts for students who are new to algebra or refining their skills.

  • Pre-Algebra Companion CD-ROM

Transform your Standard Deviants School videos into a complete lesson with these supplementary CD-ROMs! Within each lesson, you’ll find everything you need to present and reinforce the material covered in the program, including a Teacher’s Guide with helpful presentation notes, a Program Guide that lists the most important topics in each program, QuikNotes – illustrated notes with definitions and examples, and a quiz. Also usable with the Standard Deviants videos. Mac and PC compatible.

  • Pre-Algebra:The Basics

The Standard Deviants start off with pre-algebra basics, such as integer exponents, the rules of exponents and factoring numbers. Along the way, you’ll meet that excellent number juggler, Erastothenes and his mathematical genius.

  • Pre-Algebra: The Basics

The Standard Deviants start off with pre-algebra basics, such as integer exponents, the rules of exponents and factoring numbers. Along the way, you’ll meet that excellent number juggler, Erastothenes and his mathematical genius.

  • Vital Concepts

The Standard Deviants travel from top to bottom and from high to low, all in search of the math concepts you need to know: tree diagrams and square roots, greatest common factors and least common multiples. Plus, get ready for some prime time prime factorization.

  • Roots and Rational Numbers

The Standard Deviants get back to their roots-higher roots and roots with fractional exponents, that is. But it doesn’t stop there; they also take a cruise down the number line and keep our eyes peeled for rational and irrational numbers, plus repeating decimals.

  • Basic Algebra

This program continues the discussion of the number line and includes a review of intervals and inequalities. Then it’s the first steps into basic algebra-constants, variables, equations, and a special surprise appearance by X.

  • Algebra Equations

Throw out your pre-algebra preconceptions, because after a quick review of our basic algebraic equations, the Standard Deviants head straight into more advanced algebra. It’s double the fun with double the X’s. Includes solving for variables, absolute values, and get started working with graphs.
