There is a lot of controversy around genetic modification of organisms and cloning. This program looks at the way man has modified genomes of plants and animals used for food since the dawn of agriculture. As knowledge of cells and genetics has increased so has man’s ability to alter genomes. Animations show how genetic engineers are now able to construct and insert genes for desirable characteristics into plants and how technology is used to increase numbers of animals with desirable traits and screen out those with disease or lower food yields.

Coordination and Control One: Animals
Providing an in-depth investigation into the two main mechanisms, this program looks in detail at the nervous system of animals, including neuron structure, how a signal is transmitted through and between neurons and the division of the nervous system into central and peripheral, voluntary and automatic. The hormone system is explained with a detailed look at the various endocrine glands, the hormones they secrete and their roles in coordinating the body’s functions. Extensive use of high-quality animated graphics and clear explanations ensure that this program is a powerful tool for enhancing student understanding of these complex biological processes in animals.

Coordination and Control Two: Plants
The study of plant hormones has long been part of Biology courses. The use of animation in this program aims to give students a better understanding of the complex interaction between organism and environmental stimuli in a way that the pages of a book can’t. This program deals with how plants use hormones to coordinate and control their activities with changes in the environment. The roles of the major hormones are discussed and their mode of action at a cellular level is explored. Some of the lesser known hormones are described.

Corrosion Chemistry
This program is designed to help students understand the chemistry in corrosion. The enigmatic presenter takes the viewer on an informative journey examining such issues as what causes corrosion, necessary conditions for corrosion to occur, which metals corrode, oxidization, electricity and redox and corrosion minimization. Enhanced by animated graphics and laboratory experiments, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of this chemical process.

Creative Cakes: Basic Techniques
The first in a two-part series, this practical guide looks at many basic techniques used in cake decorating. Cake decorating experts share their knowledge and display their skills on various processes, including chocolate work, basic frostings, piping work and covering a cake in fondant. Demonstrations of the techniques are shown and explained.
-
Creative Cakes: Beyond the Basics
The second in this two-part series, this program looks at more advanced techniques used in cake decorating. Again featuring our cake decorating experts at work, we feature some more complex cake decorating skills, such as doing transfers, colored piping and collars, three different techniques for creating frosting roses and we even learn how to create a rag doll figurine!

Day to Day Business in a Café
There are many roles to play in operating a small business successfully. This case study presents an overview of what is involved in running a café such as; a typical day, customers, products, staff, legalities and regulations, operations and location and marketing. It provides a valuable insight into the priorities of a small business owner, operating within the framework of regulations, customer demands and fierce competition.

DC Electricity: Discovery and Developments
This program looks at the origins of electricity through the first uses of static electricity by the Greeks, Gilbert and onto other popular displays by scientists in the 18th and 19th centuries. Viewers will gain an understanding of the chemical battery, the ‘complete’ circuit, electrolysis, electroplating and negatively charged electrons. Resistance to flow is introduced and the use of both ammeters and voltmeters to monitor flow and potential. Highly effective animations will engage students, while clearly demonstrating processes.

Decisions, Decisions: Family Food Choices
While there are many influences on our food decisions, the family is probably the most important. In this program, we spend time with a not atypical family: a husband and wife and their teenage and pre-teenage children. We see who makes the decisions, why and with what effect, and we see how the family’s thinking about nutrition is fairly deeply ingrained, sometimes for the worst, sometimes for the better.
