Does simply ignoring bullying make someone an innocent bystander? Or is there something that they can do to help the situation. This program looks at the different behaviours demonstrated by bystanders, and focuses on the fact that all bystanders have a role to play in preventing bullying. Featuring expert interviews with Clinical Psychologist Andrew Fuller and Counseling Psychologist Roslyn Berkovitch as well as dramatised scenarios in the school yard and on public transport. This second program in the Against Bullying Series illustrates what we can do to assist in the fight against bullying.

Better Ways to Communicate
The management of bullying by individuals and institutions has progressed a long way from the days of denial, three to four decades ago. Modern society places greater importance on positive relationships and there is a far greater awareness of the destructiveness of bullying. This program aims to strengthen viewers’ awareness of some effective techniques they can use to protect themselves from destructive attempts at intimidation. This documentary also explores how all of us are vulnerable both to the attacks of another person, and to the temptation of bullying people we know. More recent developments in cyber-bullying, and its pernicious effects caused by anonymity and relentless, un-sourced messages, are also effectively explored by psychologists Andrew Fuller and Rosalind Berkowitz.

Chemical Equations in the Real World
The word ‘chemicals’ might bring to mind pools of swirling, poisonous mixtures, dangerous acids or secret formulas… but they are far more prominent in everyday life than we might first think. Very little in the physical world around us occurs without chemical reactions being involved. In this way, many of the important processes in modern manufacturing and product use can be summarised with chemical equations. This program takes an in-depth look at five common products that are in use all around us and explores the chemistry behind their manufacture and/or use, including chemical equations. Using graphics and footage from inside manufacturing plants, we see examples of how chemistry is so prevalent in the real world – and examine various reactions taking place. The products are soap, polystyrene, aluminium, paint and car batteries.

Getting Along: Positive Communication
Communication is the transferring of information from one person to another and helps us in making new friends. The development of communication skills in children can help build positive interpersonal relationships. Effective communication skills help children to manage their emotions and to solve conflict without violence. This program looks at the communication skills needed to initiate, develop and maintain friendships at the individual and group level. Verbal and non-verbal skills are investigated, demonstrating why children need to be aware that there are different communication skills for different situations and audiences. Specific communication skills for interacting with adults are also investigated.
