  • Understanding Prejudice

Prejudice in the 21st century may not seem overt, yet we remain a prejudiced society. Whether it’s racial assumptions, views on gender, income, vocation, clothing, even whole cities or suburbs, all of us hold prejudicial thoughts. In this intelligent and thought-provoking program we explore some of the reasons why society chooses to ‘accept’ some people, but excludes and rejects others. Including a brief historical look at groups of people who have experienced prejudice, and why these views differ today, this is an excellent discussion starter for your classroom. Leading psychologist Andrew Fuller provides commentary on the impact of prejudice on individuals, how prejudice is perpetuated, what to do in the face of injustice and how to embrace and accept differences. Chapter: 1.Introduction 2.What’s In and What Isn’t 3.Ask the Question: Why? 4.What it Means to be Different 5.The Impact of Prejudice 6. What We Can Do About Prejudice 7.Conclusion

  • Arctic Diamond Fever

This is the story behind the multibillion dollar fever that has led internationally renown geologists to the most unlikely place on earth – a land package the size of Texas in the empty, remote and vast barren lands of the Artic. Fueled by the fever of the hunt for that rare and precious find and in spite of deathly obstacles, geologists began what has become the biggest staking rush in world history. This is the search for the oldest, hardest, and most valuable gem in the world.

  • Working Front of House

  • Climate Change: Our Responsibility

This program establishes the vital importance of the greenhouse effect for life on Earth and then presents a balanced argument to assess whether or not anthropogenic climate change (often called global warming) is in fact taking place. Clear arguments are presented on both sides of the debate and illustrations given covering both more economically developed countries and less economically developed countries, with impacts and responses fully explored. A thorough and balanced examination of this important and often contentious issue.

  • Homeostasis

Touch a hot stove and the muscles in your fingers will jerk your skin away before you’ve even registered the pain. Go for a run on a hot day and feel the sweat seep out of your pores. Stand outside in the cold in winter and count the length of time before your body begins to shiver. All these reactions are the result of homeostasis – that is, the mechanism by which our bodies – and the life support systems of all organisms – works to maintain a stable internal environment, despite changes in external conditions. In this program we’ll explore the concept of homeostasis. We’ll ask what homeostasis is, why it is important, take a look at detecting changes from the stable state, counteracting changes from the stable state, and how homeostasis works.

  • Introduction to Electricity

This program introduces the concept of electricity to the student who has used this source of energy all his or her life but has never really understood where it comes from and how it works. It gives a little of the early history and covers static and current electricity. The analogy of a stream of water is used to help explain the concept of current, resistance and voltage. Students are shown where our electricity comes from and a large range of examples of where it is used. It is also stressed that this resource should not be wasted and why.

  • Introduction to Polymers

This program introduces students to the world of polymers. Students look at a number of monomers and the processes of addition polymerization and condensation polymerization in order to produce a desired polymer. Properties of both thermosetting and thermoplastic polymers are also investigated with links to the relationship between physical properties of a material and the type of bonding that is occurring both within and between the molecules. Students will also look at elastomers and the various degrees of cross linking and the process of Vulcanization.

  • Natural Selection: Its Place in Modern Society

Natural Selection is a process which affects every species on Earth, including humans. This program illustrates how Natural Selection continues to affect us all in fundamental ways that will determine our future survival as a species. Included in the program is a brief explanation of Natural Selection, examples of how Natural Selection is operating all around us, how Natural Selection has affected human evolution and how it is still affecting our daily lives. The program concludes with the reciprocal view of how modern human society is affecting Natural Selection processes in the environment, and the consequences for the future of life on Earth.
